Families across New Mexico are struggling to make ends meet. It’s a grocery bill that keeps climbing, rent that’s gotten harder to cover, and prescriptions people are struggling to afford. President Trump’s tariffs, high gas prices, and cuts to health care and nutrition programs are making it worse. I’m fighting to bring costs down for New Mexico families, and I’ll work with anyone serious about doing the same.
- Ensuring New Mexican Families Can Put Food on the Table: Republicans cut $187 billion from SNAP to fund tax breaks for the wealthy. I opposed that budget and am leading the fight to reverse the cuts. In a country of such abundance, hunger is a policy choice.
- Housing: Buying a home should not be out of reach for New Mexican families. I’m fighting to make housing more affordable. I helped pass the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act to provide federal incentives for new housing, cheaper financing for manufactured and modular homes, and less red tape.
- Energy and gas prices: Trump’s deadly war of choice has caused energy and gas prices to skyrocket. I’m fighting to bring those costs down. I helped pass historic clean energy tax credits and efficiency rebates and have sponsored legislation to bring down energy costs.
- Prescription drugs: I helped pass the law letting Medicare negotiate drug prices, capped insulin at $35 a month, and capped seniors’ out-of-pocket drug costs. Every New Mexican should be able to afford the medication they need to survive and thrive.
- Health insurance: Every American deserves quality, affordable care. After Republicans let ACA Premium Tax Credits expire, I led Senate Democrats in introducing the Protecting Health Care and Lowering Costs Act to permanently extend ACA premium tax credits and lower premiums for 20 million people.
- Child care: As one of only two U.S. Senators to attend Head Start, I know the value of early childhood education and care. I co-led the Childcare for Working Families Act, capping child care costs at 7% of family income, and pushed back on Republican cuts to Head Start.
- Scams and junk fees: With everything costing more under the Trump administration, no one should be scammed out of their money or face hidden fees. I introduced legislation banning surveillance pricing at grocery stores and am fighting to end junk fees.
